After my third and most painful marathon, over three years ago now, I said my next marathon would require some serious motivation.
On June 20, 2011, I signed up for the inaugural St. Louis Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, held Sunday, October 23, 2011.
That was also the day of my mom and dad’s 47th wedding anniversary. But for the first time in 47 years, the day passed without my mom and dad being together to celebrate. My mom passed away suddenly nearly three months ago, and on his anniversary, my dad spent the day in a hospital getting his first CT scan and MRI since beginning chemotherapy in April.
This marathon will be my way of trying to deal with a previous ten or so months that have tested me more than I ever have been tested before, and the upcoming months that still hang in the balance of mystery. For me, this marathon represents hope and a goal on the horizon. And, hopefully, I will be sharing the progress of my next 18-week journey here on this blog.
